On Your Marks, Get Set, Go!

Los Cabos Half Marathon coming up February 11

Calling all runners! It’s that time of year again. The Los Cabos Half Marathon is coming up next month, (a perfect way to start getting in shape for the Ironman later this year). About 2,000 participants are expected for the event.

Billed as an international “winter” race, people come from all over the world to take part in this event. Any excuse you can find to come to Cabo will work. Our winter here also provides the perfect climate to go for a run.

The races start at 7:00 a.m., with both the starting and finish lines at Plaza Mijares in downtown San Jose.

The route is mostly flat with just a few small hills to climb. The scenic route traverses the entire hotel zone in San Jose before heading over to Puerto Los Cabos and the marina, and finally returning to the Plaza Mijares. The 5k and 10k routes also start at the Plaza Mijares before making their way through the hotel zone and then returning to the Plaza.

Of course, this race route means the streets will be closed and navigating around downtown San Jose will be a nightmare. If you’re not racing or spectating, best to save yourself the aggravation and stay home. If you are racing, parking will be available at the stadium behind Plaza Mijares. There is also a free shuttle service from Cabo to Plaza Mijares in San Jose, you just have to confirm your place by sending organizers an email with your name and race number.

Registration for the event can be done online at www.loscaboshalfmarathon.com. Racers have the option to attend the Finish Festival, a party with food and drinks for the finishers of the race. The half marathon costs $65 USD per person or $90 with the festival included. The 10k race goes for $45 per person, $70 if you want to go to the festival. The 5k costs $35 for the race and $60 with the festival.
