Better Than Black Friday

Start your Christmas shopping at the Holiday Arts Show
BY: ANNE TEAK

If you’re already thinking about how you’re going to get your Christmas shopping done, the 2017 Holiday Art Show in Los Barriles is a good place to start.

btrbfri.JPGThis show, which is hosted by the East Cape Arts Association, offers art work from many local artists - nothing made in China or anything you could easily buy in the States, here. The artwork includes jewelry, dresses, aprons, pillowcases and other fabric art, wooden bowls, handmade cards, and hats, just to name a few.

After you’ve shopped ‘til you dropped, revive yourself with something from the food vendors. There will be burgers from Gourmet Burgers of San Antonio, who will also have sweet breads, jams, salsas and their famous strudel (and you can order a whole one for your Christmas party). The Sausage Ladies will be there, and will be fully stocked so you can take some sausage home with you. You can also enjoy Carmen’s smoothies, sweet treats and ice cream bars.

Be sure to save some money for raffle tickets. The arts association will be raffling off gift baskets worth several hundred dollars each, which will be filled with gift certificates for hotel stays, activities, beauty treatments and dinners.

And don’t get cheap with the raffle tickets; it’s the ticket sales that give the arts association money for its programs. Those programs include Saturday arts and crafts lessons for local kids, buying arts and educational supplies for East Cape schools, and hosting a summer sports program for elementary and secondary school children.

The art show will be from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on December 3 in the Colina del Sol neighborhood in Los Barriles. To get to there, just head north out of town, towards the “road to nowhere,” and look for the signs. For more information on the show (including detailed directions), or if you’re interested in being a vendor, email them at eastcapearts@gmail.com.
